Themed
Wine Packages
Selections include duos, trios, six-bottle, or twelve-bottle
cases.
 |
Groom's Personal Selection: Duo of Movia Puro
By virtue of its protected identity, Champagne is regarded as the most genuine and serious of the sparkling wines, a bubbly operating in a class unto itself. Many countries, however, employ the rigorous méthode champenoise that accounts, in part, for Champagne's gravitas, and Movia takes it a little further, requiring its audience to actually engage in the process. As the Puro is bottled undisgorged, the yeast sediment plug must necessarily be removed under water prior to its being served. Includes two bottles of the 2000 vintage—a blanc de blancs (wholly made from white grapes) and a rosè.

bottles. |

Duo of Bubblies from the Boot:
Includes Col Vetoraz Prosecco [SPK33] and a Piemonte
sparkler from Bruno Giacosa [SPK56]. Two

|
 |
Duo of Amarone:
Having long resided in the upper echelon of Italian wine, no other dry wine in the world offers Amarone’s level of extraction and complexity. Such depth is achieved through the appassimento process, during which winemakers spread out carefully selected grapes in single layers to dry on straw or plastic mats for 60 to 100 days. During this time, the grapes loose a substantive amount of water weight, dramatically concentrating their sugars. Thereafter, the raisined grapes are crushed and fully fermented into a dry, full-bodied wine marked by high alcohol (a minimum of 14%, though it frequently attains between 15 - 16%). Part of its great intrigue lies in its deceptive nature: While the palate may initially interpret it as sweet, it finishes wholly dry, a quality that is often rather austere in certain productions. Includes the Nicolis Amarone Ambrosan 2001 and Begali Amarone Monte Ca Bianca 2003.
Two bottles. |
Price: $176.00
|
|
 |
Edoardo Valentini Duo:
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo's most sought after producer
creates this special and age-worthy white and rosato.
Includes the Edoardo Valentini 2004 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo
[WH1114] and Edoardo Valentini 2005 Cerasuolo Rosato
[WH1112]. Two

| Price: $181.50
|
|
 |
Josko Gravner Duo:
Josko Gravner is Friuli’s most profound and influential winemaker, an eminent genius who has produced some of Italy’s most compelling white wines since commencing production in 1975. These eclectic white wines are produced with the technique of clay amphorae and results in high quality, thinking whites that drink more like reds. Includes the 2002 and 2003
Two

|
 |
Duo of Massolino Barolo:
One of Piemonte’s most respected traditionalist producers, Massolino produced only a Barolo normale for several years (first released in 1911), adhering to the original conception of Barolo—a multisource effort. Over the years, however, Massolino acquired significant holdings in Serralunga d’Alba, precipitating its movement into the single-vineyard genre, most notably through its flagship bottling, Vigna Rionda. Made in vintages of the highest caliber, Massolino’s Vigna Rionda is aged for 3˝ to 4 years in Slavonian oak, while the normale bottling sees 2 to 2˝ years in oak. It is known for being a wine of longevity, realizing its complex persona over an extended maturation period. Includes the 1999 and 2000 Riserva’s.
Includes the 1999 and 2000 Riserva selections |
Price: $221.10
|
|
 |
Duo of Mascarello Barolo:
A ten-year old Barolo from Bartolo will typically carry
the traditional garnet red with highlights of orange
bracing the rim. A delicate and enticing bouquet of
old rose petals, violet, and licorice embrace the nose.
On the palate, there is serious structure and exquisite
balance with flavors of dried cherries, tobacco, leather,
tar, and tell-tale truffle. Acidity and tannins are
firmly braced by noble structure. These are the trademarks
of a well-made, traditional Barolo from Bartolo Mascarello!
Includes the 2000 and 2001 selections |
Price: $226.20
|
|
 |
Duo of Poggio di Sotto Brunello:
Poggio di Sotto’s founder, Piero Palmucci (a former shipping executive), is one of those producers who operates most often behind the label—with consultant Giulio Gambelli (the eminent name behind the most desired of Montalcino’s majestic stars—Soldera), meriting all the cover action—despite the fact that his perfectionist streak positions him at the forefront of the production process. Palmucci believes that dark Brunellos are disingenuous—wines that cannot possibly be pure-varietal expressions. Thus, a Poggio di Sotto Brunello visually corroborates this stance, exhibiting a medium-red garnet color upon release. It also offers a formidable tannic structure and high level of acidity. Includes the 2000 and 2003 selections.
Two bottles. |
Price: $267.38
|
|
 |
Duo of Chianti Classico:
Sangiovese has been pushing its way through the rocky
Italian soil since Etruscan times and it's the key to
Tuscany's Chianti Classico. This duo contains two ready-to-drink
selections: La Sala 2006 Chianti Classico [RD5092] and
Il Castagno 2005 Chianti Classico [RD5093]. Two
bottles. |
Price: $51.70 SOLD OUT

|
 |
Duo of Villa Mangiacane Chianti
Classico:
Sure this Chianti can turn pizza night into a comforting
Trattoria experience, but this Sangiovese provides more
than that. It’s a sleek and sophisticated style—just
what you would expect from an estate built by members
of the eminent Machiavelli family, owned by the aristocratic
family of Mazzei for over three centuries, and thought
to have been designed, in part, by Michelangelo. Includes
the 2003 Normale [4565] and 2004 Riserva [RD5144]
Two bottles. |
| Price: $60.44
|
|
 |
Duo of Scavino 2004 Barolo:
Scavino, along with Valentino Migliorini and about ten
others, was responsible for the movement that changed
the character and direction of Barolo forever. These
men were dubbed “The Barolo Boys”—the
winemakers often credited for making Barolo internationally
popular. Includes Cannubi and Ambrogio, the most historic
cru and the newest.
Two bottles. |
Price: $233.28
|
|
 |
Duo of Famiglia Anselma Barolo:
Maurizio Anselma is an emerging force in Barolo and
the spirit behind a new estate, Famiglia Anselma. Established
in 1993, the estate released its first Barolo in 1997.
They are one of the largest land owners in the area,
owning more than eighty hectares in three of the most
prized Barolo production zones: Monforte d’Alba, Serralunga
and Barolo. Unlike most producers, the Anselmas choose
only the best grapes from the choicest vineyards to
produce their wine. These are wines of great balance
and structure with power and an underlying elegance,
just as Barolo should be. Includes 2000 and 2001 Riserva
and 2003 normale.

Duo of Movia: White Spectrum
Movia has been producing wine for more than three centuries.
Purchased by the Kristancic family in 1820, the estate
was recently passed from Mirko to his young son Ales.
This French- and Italian-trained winemaker takes a historical
but radical approach to his wines. He ages the whites
in 600-liter Slovenian oak casks or traditional Slovenian
barriques (which are actually smaller than French barriques),
leaving them on the lees without stirring for more than
two years. He never racks the wines; they are fined
and filtered by the atmospheric pressure brought by
the arrival of the new moon. This is a purely natural
approach that leaves the wines brilliantly clear. Includes,
Ribolla and the Veliko Bianco. Two bottles. |
Price: $71.24
|
|
 |
Trio of Mastroberardino:
The winery was established in 1750 by Pietro di Berardino
(he adopted the title of Mastro, which eventually merged
with Berardino) and officially registered in 1878 by
Cavalier Angelo Mastroberardino, whose grandson, Antonio
(of the ninth generation), is widely acknowledged as
one of the grand masters of Italian winemaking. Includes
the 2004 Aglianico Irpinia, 2003 Taurasi Radici, and
the 2000 Naturalis Historia.
