Terre Bianche Situated in the western Ligurian village of Dolceacqua, Terre Bianche was founded by Tommaso Rondelli in 1870. Despite Liguria's affinity with whites, Rossesse, a red grape, was the first to be planted. In present day Ligurian viticulture, Rossesse is the most well-known of Liguria's reds, although its availability is basically confined to its area of production. While Terre Bianche and other Ligurian producers offer quality versions, its pronounced savory dimension is unusual, placing it outside the frame of reference of most modern wine drinkers. Vermentino and Pigato, the top varietal performers in Liguria's white portfolio were soon added, and Terre Bianche's Pigato is regarded as one of the premier examples of this aromatic varietal. The estate has undergone periodic expansion through the years and is presently under the direction of Filippo Rondelli, who has implemented a substantive technological protocol while maintaining traditional practices.
