Tasca d'Almerita
(Regaleali) The Tasca d'Almerita family's eponymous winery is one of the defining operations comprising Regaleali, an estate founded in the 19th century. (The estate's cooking school is one of the world's foremost culinary institutions.) Count Giuseppe Tasca inaugurated the winery's modern era in the late 1950s, eliminating bulk production in favor of quality-driven efforts that testified to the quality of Sicilian winemaking.
He conceived the house's flagship bottlings, Rosso del Conte
and Nozze d'Oro, the former of which presented a modern version of Sicilia's native Nero d'Avola, earning unofficial recognition as the paradigm of this region's high-caliber reds. Interestingly, the estate enjoyed fame as early as the mid- to late 1800s, when Regaleali Bianco and Regaleali Rosso were served by Countess d'Almerita in the company of top French and German wines.
Tasca d'Almerita is currently one of Sicilia's most advanced wineries, producing a vast breadth of wines representing several ranges; both native and international varieties are treated individually and within blends. Production is overseen by Count Lucio (one of Giuseppe's sons) and his two sons, Giuseppe and Alberto.
