Nicodemi Nicodemi is situated in Colline Teramane, a zone in Montepulciano
d’Abruzzo that was granted DOCG status in 2003. Brother
and sister Elena and Alessandro Nicodemi currently direct
the estate’s operations in conjunction with renowned
winemaker Paolo Caciorgna. Together they have pursued an
intensive regime dedicated to revitalizing the estate through
methods that are inherently suited to the cultivation of
the Montepulciano grape, including cordon-method vine training
and tendon trellising; yield restriction also contributes
to heightened quality.
Nicodemi’s profound grasp of Montepulciano’s
character is conveyed in its diverse aging protocol. While
the entry-level Montepulciano is aged in Slovenian casks,
the Notari bottling—a selection of the estate’s
premier grapes—matures in barrique. Nicodemi’s
work with Trebbiano also reflects an understanding of the
techniques that elicit its full potential, delivering it
from its reputation as a fairly neutral varietal through
restriction of yields and careful selection processes.
