Moccagatta The essence of a single-vineyard bottling is the expression of an individual identity, and this receives consummate interpretation in the work of the Moccagatta estate, which produces a trio of cru Barbarescos-Basarin, Cole, and Bric Balin'. While the represented crus each proffer a very distinct character, owners Franco and Sergio Minuto afford these personas particularly acute expression, as they vinify each in accordance with their respective terroir. The Basarin typically reaches an appropriate drinking stage prior to the other two, offering a pronounced nose that contrasts with the unexpected restraint it exercises on the palate. The Cole cru is expressed exclusively through the work of the Minutos, whose bottling debuted with the '03 vintage;
its formidable structure affords it significant aging potential. The Bric Balin' is the most revered of the three, displaying generous red fruits within an elegant context. Moccagatta also bottles a Dolcetto as well as both a Barbera and Chardonnay from the Basarin cru.
