Cantine Lento Cantine Lento is situated in the Lamezia DOC and produces
both indigenous and native varietals.
While the red wines of the Ciró DOC—which
essentially represents the region of Calabria in and of
itself—are largely based on Gaglioppo, other Calabrian
regions, including Lamezia, operate a more diverse portfolio,
endeavoring to enrich the character of Gaglioppo with grapes
such as Nerello, Aglianico, and Sangiovese.
The prevailing reds in Lento’s canon are Magliocco,
Nerello, and Greco Nero; this trio, in fact, comprises
the composition of a few of Lento’s bottlings; Gaglioppo
joins Nerello in the Caracciolo bottling, and international
style is captured in Federico II, a pure Cabernet
bottling. Whites are represented by Greco Bianco, Malvasia,
and Trebbiano.
