Lamborghini Ferruccio Lamborghini, the famed sports
car manufacturer, purchased vineyard land near the beautiful
Lake Trasimeno in Umbria in 1971, where he grew grapes and
took up wine as a hobby. It was only a few years ago that
his daughter, Patrizia Lamborghini, turned this hobby into
a serious business, turning this into one of the most respected
wineries the region of Umbria. Most vineyards lie in calcareous
clay and sand, along with limestone. This location, outside
the famed Umbrian city of Perugia, enjoys warm and sunny
weather almost year round. This area is now constantly seen
as one of great viticultural potential, a look that is a
welcome change to an area that was generally not known for
its wine. Patrizia helped change this image by upgrading
the facilities and hiring winemaker Riccardo Cotarella to
take charge. There is a bright future for this Umbrian estate,
with wine that is sure to only get better year after year.
