Di Majo Norante Molise and Abruzzo constituted one region until 1963,
when Molise received standing as an independent region.
While the wines issuing from the three DOC areas are based
on Abruzzo’s DOC mainstays, Trebbiano and Montepulciano,
Molise shows a greater propensity for the varietals
of Campania—Falanghina, Greco, Fiano, and Aglianico.
In fact, while a significant amount of the production is
consumed locally, the wines notably benefit from the innate
character of Falanghina and Aglianico. Extensive exploration
of potential vineyard space is currently being conducted,
as the interior shows possibility for high caliber viticultural
production.
Americans’ sole provider of the wines of Molise
is Alessio Di Majo Norante. Established in 1968, Di Majo
Norante’s canon reflects the region’s characteristic
Campanian persona, yet reflects both of its regional touchstones
in the Ramitello bottling, a blend of Montepulciano and
Aglianico.
