Castello Ducale The early history of Castello Ducale
lies below ground, where the late Byzantine frescoes of
an 11th century church can still be seen. The cellar here
was used to store wine as early as the 17th century and
still provides natural temperature control year-round. The
current estate was founded in 1997 by Antonio Donato, who
swiftly established himself among Campania’s quality
wineries. Donato focuses on indigenous Italian varietals
–Aglianico, Sangiovese, Barbera, Piedirosso, Pallagrello
Bianco, and Falanghina – which cover just 12 ha in
the Colline Caiatine near Benevento and Caserta.
