Castello di Ama Castello di Ama, situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico
zone, sets itself apart through the unique vision of
winemaker Marco Pallanti, whose approach to the crafting
of wine entails the integration of science, philosophy,
and art. While Pallanti's aesthetic considerations are
formally recognized in Castello's art project (dedicated
to the presentation of art works that capture the marriage
of "Art and Wine"), the estate is noted for its rigorous
study of Sangiovese clones, undertaken in the interest
of isolating those of the highest quality. This dedicated
pursuit finds its complement in the estate's intensive
assessment of the nuances of individual vineyard plots,
which received ultimate expression in its introduction
of the "Cru" concept to the Chianti Classico zone. The
portfolio currently includes four single-vineyard expressions-Bellavista,
San Lorenzo, Casuccia, and Bertinga.
The estate's signature bottling-the Castello di Ama-debuted in the 1996 vintage,
and represents the height of expression obtainable through a rigorous process
of selection. Originally founded in 1972 through the cooperative efforts of four
families, Castello di Ama was described in Il
Buon Vino: 1st Geografico de Agostini (published by Carlo Cambi, a house
specializing in the production of wine & food books) as "one of those places
where one encounters the Platonic absolutes...."
