Casisano-Colombaio
Fattoria Casisano-Colombaio is on the threshold of acquiring a rank in Toscana’s elite contingent, a stature that realized its nascent stage in 1990, when the estate was acquired by the Ciarpella family. The Ciarpellas initiated extensive renovations of both the vineyard area—comprising a total of 19 hectares—and facilities. The estate is situated south of Montalcino, with vineyards receiving a southeasterly exposure, and the prevailing viticultural ideology reflects a traditional orientation, directly evidenced by Casisano’s use of Slavonian oak and fairly long maceration periods (averaging 25 days); organic principles have been employed in viticultural efforts since 1996. In addition to the area’s standard bottlings—Brunello di Montalcino (a Brunello Riserva is crafted in exceptional years) and Rosso di Montalcino—Casisano also produces a single-vineyard Brunello entitled Vigna del Colombaiolo, in addition to grappa and extra-virgin olive oil.
