Capezzana The Capezzana estate, situated in Toscana’s
Carmignano DOCG area, traces its viticultural history
back 12 centuries, as a contract from the year 804
references the property’s ‘vineyards and
olive groves.’ This early viticultural propensity
received eminent validation in 1716, when the Grand
Duke of Toscana, Cosimo III de’ Medici, declared
that Carmignano’s wine production should be regulated,
thereby rendering it one of the four original delimited
zones.
The region of Carmignano, situated to the west
of Florence on Monte Albano’s eastern slopes, has
earned its royal decree through its distinctive expressions
of Sangiovese, achieved through atypical blends that
produce a wine of higher acidity and greater aromatic
expression than Chianti Classico. Capezzana is one
of the area’s three principal producers,
cultivating both indigenous and international varieties.
The portfolio includes the historic Carmignano DOCG
bottling (Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon) and Carmignano’s
younger sibling, Barco Reale DOC (Sangiovese, Cabernet
Sauvignon, and Canaiolo), in addition to Trefiano (another
Carmignano DOCG), a Vin Santo, and two IGT bottlings.
