Villa Sparina
Villa Sparina, an estate winery and 18th-century villa, is one of three properties comprising the Monterotondo Resort (a hotel and restaurant complete the trio), an entity conceived by the Moccagatta family in the interest of representing and honoring the region's tradition and culture. Indeed, in the 17th century, the eponymous village of Monterotondo constituted a self-contained community. The Moccagattas are particularly desirous of branding, fashioning, and promoting a tourism program that positions wine in the forefront. Guests of Monterotondo may, in fact, design an itinerary that is dedicated to the exploration and enjoyment of wine. Appropriately enough, Villa Sparina was owned by the area's first producers of wine.

The Experience
Situated amid the Gavi Hills, Monterotondo harkens back to the past, an orientation that is preserved by laws protecting the native states of designated areas. The overall mood is one of calm, and the proximity of the Ligurian sea is perceptible throughout the seasons.

Accommodations
Visitors of Monterotondo receive four-star accommodations in the resort's hotel, L'Ostelliere, which served as an old farmhouse in the 17th century. While the resort's defining ambience is evoked in period furniture and various pieces-sourced from regions throughout Europe-this ethos is evoked in the presence of modern amenities. The dynamic contrast between past and present operates in all 28 of L'Ostelliere's rooms, 12 of which are suites. Eleven of the latter take the name of one of the Gavi DOCG's appellations, while one bears the name of Villa Sparina's most significant wine, MonteRotondo, a Gavi sourced from vines over 50 years of age.

Corporate Retreats
Those seeking to conduct their corporate affairs at Monterotondo will meet with particularly beneficent provisions, as the hotel offers several formal meeting spaces equipped with various tools and amenities.

Activities
While wine tasting is, of course, one of the foremost activities, Monterotondo offers an extensive roster of pursuits that engage guests of all persuasions. Designated points of the year feature specialty programs, including a study of white truffles and a working celebration of the harvest season. Regular offerings include guided tours of wineries and castles; golfing at various clubs; and shopping in the renowned Valenza, "the town of gold and jewelry."

Surrounding Area
Monterotondo is easily accessible via highway from Milan, Turin, and Genoa.
