A genuine Tuscan persona and the splendor of period art work- including the villa's original frescoes and later antique pieces-fashion the prevailing atmosphere at Villa Mangiacane, a renowned 16th-century villa and winery situated in Chianti Classico. This magical estate spanning 300 hectares of vineyards, olive groves, and forests, was built by Cardinal Francesco Maria Machiavelli and owned by the aristocratic family of Mazzei for over three centuries. In 2000, it was acquired by Glynn Cohen, who initiated a period of revitalization dedicated to the production of quality wines and the celebration of art.
The Experience
Your visit at Mangiacane immerses you in a virtual art emporium, as the villa showcases art work representing several mediums and movements. Appropriately enough, some believe that Michaelangelo actually contributed to the villa's original conceptual design. At present, Shona art is the subject of a special focus treatment, and profits from various exhibitions are donated to the support of Shona sculptors in Zimbabwe. Estate gardens also reflect the estate's artistic soul. Those seeking to satisfy their culinary desires will be served with a range of choice options. Meals are presented in a range of environments, including a formal dining room, the Vinoteque cellar, and the Olive Oil Kitchen. Guests may also make arrangements for private dining within individual chambers or one of the estate gardens.
