In this past Sunday’s episode of the CBS news program
60 Minutes, correspondent Morley Safer introduced
to more than sixteen million Americans the Antinori
Family – making the famed Florentine house the first
Italian estate to be presented on the show, in its forty
years running.
The twelve minute segment, “Antinori: Keeping It
All In The Family”, profiled the family’s rich
history and legacy since its foundation in 1385 focusing
on how a close-nit family approach to business has virtually
remained unchanged over the past twenty-six generations,
despite the recent growth and expansion into regions beyond
Tuscany headed by the current head of the household, the
Marchese Piero Antinori.
Thankful and proud for their achievements and profitable
family business, the Antinoris portray themselves as “basically
farmers” and devoted “servants of the land”,
with destinies strongly bounded to mother nature, which
“always has the last word” ruling over man and
vineyards. After all, as Piero Antinori explained to Safer,
the essence of their wines are a result of a strong family
unity, remarkable experience and the painstaking patience
and acceptance over the years to let nature take its course.
The interview also highlighted the newest generation involved
in the business, the Marchese’s three daughters: Albiera,
Allegra and Alessia – the first female heirs to play
major roles in the 623 year old company.
