Chianti Rùfina
Vintage Tasting at Villa La Massa
Italian Food
& Wine Events
Candeli (Firenze), Toscana
November 19th
As previously reported, the second edition of the Anteprima
Chianti Rùfina returned to Florence and like
the original, the organizing Consortium offered members
of the press a retrospective of vintages ranging from 1980-1990,
prior to the much anticipated preview tasting of the 2006
Riserva and 2007 vintages soon to be released on the market.
The luxurious Villa La Massa, a majestic Medici property
and luxury hotel located just a few minutes outside the
city of Florence, served as the backdrop of this memorable
vintage tasting that took place last Friday. The objective,
which was achieved with great success, was to showcase the
longevity of these wines, grown in the hills of the smallest,
but highest of the seven subzones of the Chianti appellation.
Eight wines were selected by the Consortium’s technical
committee to represent the complexity, elegance and refinement
that Chianti Rùfina can achieve with age. Presented
by Italian journalist Licia Granello from La Repubbica
and Massimo Castellari, who represented the local chapter
of the Italian National Sommelier Association, the tasting
order was as follows:
Fattoria Lavecchio 1999 Riserva
Fattoria Grignano 1998 Poggio Gualtieri Riserva
Villa Bossi Marchese Gondi 1997 Riserva
Villa Bossi Marchese Gondi 1990 Riserva
Castello
di Nipozzano (Frescobaldi) 1991 Montesodi
Fattoria Selvapiana 1985
Travignoli 1983 Riserva
Spalletti 1981 Poggio Reale Banda Rossa Riserva
A journey into a riveting past, eloquently presented in
the setting of Villa La Massa confirming the greatness of
this territory and exciting future for one of the most fascinating,
though perhaps least recogninzed, areas of Chianti.
