“Piemonte On Wine”: A Tourist Center for Wine Enthusiasts

Italian Wine & Travel
Barbaresco (Cuneo), Piemonte
January 2nd

The Langhe and Roero territorio in the region of Piemonte is among the most celebrated wine destinations of the world. The home to the King and Queen of Italian wines, Barolo and Barbaresco, it is characterized by a succession of rolling hills marking the landscape with endless rows of vineyards and hazel groves alternating with medieval villages and castles. A setting of true delight to the eyes of the most avid tourist and a land of pleasures for the discriminating palate of the serious wine connoisseur and gourmand—the perfect combination and the target audience for a new project called "Piemonte on Wine".

The main concept of the "Piemonte on Wine" project is to offer a regional visitor/contact center, the first of its kind in Italy, dedicated exclusively to the needs of wine tourists, attracted to the Langhe and Roero area in growing numbers in the last few years to rival the region of Toscana. Representing the best of Italian wine production—Barolo and Barbaresco, but also Barbera, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto d’Alba, Asti and Moscato d’Asti, Roero and Roero Arneis, Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba and Dolcetto delle Langhe Monregalesi, Piemonte and Verduno Pelaverga—the area offers endless food and wine itineraries, or strade del vino. The center is, therefore, meant to become a point of reference for wine enthusiasts and is designed to offer official information on the area’s rich cultural and gastronomic heritage, as well as itinerary planning and reservation services for visits and tastings to local wineries.

Set to officially open its doors to the public in the spring, the "Piemonte on Wine" visitor center will be located in the heart of Barbaresco. A dedicated website is also planned in the spring, but the service is currently available, offered exclusively via e-mail. The project is a joint effort of the Consorzio Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Roero, the area’s regional tourist board and regional enoteche (wine cellars): Enoteca Regionale del Barolo, Enoteca Regionale del Barolo, Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour, Enoteca Regionale Colline del Moscato and Enoteca Regionale del Roero.
