Chianti: Forbes
Best Place to Live in Europe
Italian Wine
& Culture
Gaiole in Chianti (Siena), Toscana
December 5th
A recent article on Forbes magazine, “Europe’s
Most Idyllic Places to Live,” rated the small town
of Gaiole in Chianti as the top choice for anyone thinking
of relocating to Europe—considering the small ascent
of the dollar over the Euro in recent weeks, it might just
be the best thing to do at the moment. The small town of
Gaiole was the magazine’s top choice, while the country’s
capital city of Rome came in at 9th place.
A small municipality in the province of Siena, Gaiole in
Chianti has the ultimate positioning, just a few miles from
medieval Siena and about an hour drive southwest of Florence
and the city’s Renaissance cultural and artistic heritage,
it is also a wine enthusiast’s paradise. Nestled in
the heart of the Chianti and Chianti Classico producing
zones, it is the home of many well known estates among which
Castello
di Ama, Castello
di Cacchiano and Rocca
di Castagnoli. Selected as the premier choice by a panel
of travel experts and relocation consultants for its higher
lifestyle standards, the Chianti area was described by one
as “all about mountains, vineyards, wineries, country
inns and walking. There are equestrian centers and opportunities
to hike and play tennis, and the food is amazing."
Back in Italy the major of Gaiole in Chianti, Claudio Parigi,
reacted to the news with pride but without surprise, explaining
“I’ve always known of the excellence and distinction
of our territorio. We live in an area with a population
density of 20/50 sq. miles, it is virtually impossible not
to feel great in such an oasis of tranquility and beauty.
Even the relative long distance to the region’s main
routes, while it may seem to penalize us, it actually shelters
us allowing for more time to enjoy nature, fine wine and
food at home away for the more popular spots.”
So if relocating to Chianti is not in your cards, may we
suggest the best next thing: opening a bottle of fine Tuscan
wine and planning a visit instead!
