The Consorzio Strada del Vino e dell’Olio Costa degli
Etruschi—consortium of the wine and olive oil of
the Etruscan coast—recently appointed new members to
the Board of Directors and announced the presidency of Nicoló
Incisa della Rocchetta, father figure to the prestigious Sassicaia
label and, therefore, an exemplary spokesperson for this important
part of the Tyrrhenian coast.
The twenty new members of the Board represent the various
components of the local food and wine sector, including
wine and olive oil producers, co-operatives, hotels and
restaurants, in addition to delegates from the province
of Livorno and Pisa. “A crucial end of year for the
Consortium”—explained the Coordinator Carlo
Fossi—“In addition to the new posts and the
entrance of the representative from the Municipality of
Livorno we also implemented a new structure to our mission,
adding olive oil to our official name as to signify our
commitment to the equal promotion of the esteemed olive
oil production that plays such an important role in the
distinction of our territorio.”
Founded in 1996, the Consortium’s mission has been
to promote the itineraries of one of Italy’s most
celebrated wine producing areas, represented by four DOCs:
Terratico, Montescudaio, Val di Cornia, Isola d’Elba
and Bolgheri—the venerated home of the Super-Tuscans.
Today the Consortium boasts 158 member companies—among
which the world-famous Tenuta
San Guido and Tenuta
dell’Ornellaia, but also Le
Macchiole's Messorio, Antinori's
Tignanello and Solaia—spreading
over a Maremma landscape of “rolling hills thick,
with unspoiled woodland, medieval villages, full of history
where life is slow, warm and straightforward people, Blue
Flag beaches never far away.”
