New
DOCs from Piemonte
As the interest
in the Dolcetto grape has grown, so have the number of DOCs.
Although Dolcetto d'Alba and Dolcetto d'Asti have enjoyed
wider popularity in recent years, Dolcetto di Dogliani is
gaining accolades and attention from critics and winemakers
(like Abbona among others). The Dogliani township lies to
the south of Alba and Asti and is emerging as a new star for
the production of quality wines. Dolcetto di Dogliani DOCG
or Dolcetto di Dogliani Superiore DOCG is Piemonte's 8th DOCG
and Italy's 32nd.
Strevi DOC is a passito or dried-grape wine made from 100%
Moscato grapes grown in the township of Strevi. This sweet
wine is golden in color with amber notes, big on the nose,
with notes of ripe fruit in the mouth. The new DOC reflects
a heightened interest in passito and is part of an expanding
movement of winemakers who have lobbied for higher standards
in the production of dried-grape wines. Earlier this year,
the Association of Italian Wine Cities published the first
atlas of the dried-grape wines of Italy.
