This small estate is best known for its Barolo but also produces impressive Barbera and Dolcetto, as well as a few blended reds like the heralded 'Arte'. Owner Domenico Clerico is one of the leading proponents of the modernist movement in the winemaking process of Barolo (along with Sandrone, Scavino, and Voerzio), creating more round, fruity wines. He began in the 1980's and has since established himself as one of the leading producers of the region and a fervent advocate of quality winemaking. He believes that the grape is the crucial part of the process and stresses that the various production techniques are merely tools of the trade and not an intrinsic part of the wine itself. For this reason, Clerico is intent on the importance of the land in winemaking, which in turn explains his concentration on single-vineyard wines since they allow the character of the land to shine through unfettered.
